If are looking for healthy gluten-free food, Hu Kitchen is on the scene and ready to take on the Western diet... in a majorly GF way.
Located between 13th and 14th Streets on 5th Avenue near Union Square, Hu Kitchen is a restaurant with a philosophy. You can read about that on their website, but all you need to know is that there are all kinds of options and the entire restaurant is gluten free. The only gluten served is found in some of there beers.
How awesome is it to know you can walk in and not have to worry about what you eat in a restaurant? (Provided you have no other restrictions aside from gluten.)
Gluten free beers usually in stock include Celia Saison by the Alchemist Brewery, New Planet Pale Ale, and Estrella Damm's Daura. Remember that Daura is derived from Barley and then the gluten protein is removed to less than 3ppm (parts per million).
I thoroughly enjoyed the Organic Chicken and Quinoa Soup. It tasted like homemade soup... full flavored and fresh. We enjoyed some fresh baked bread with it, which tasted of whole grain and was soft and chewy. Yum.
I will look forward to going back to Hu Kitchen for a variety of reasons. Not only is it almost entirely gluten free (i.e. those glutenous beers), but it is also very clean and the staff were extremely courteous and professional. Way to go, Hu!
